Fall 2010 Shoe Trends

Summer is winding down for many and it’s once again time to start thinking about back-to-school fashions, specifically about shoes. Shoe trends for 2010 are taking some unexpected approaches and the fall won’t be any different. It’s time to get out there and find the best pair of fall 2010 shoes.

Fall 2010 Shoe Trends for Women

  • Boots - Boots were the hottest trend last winter and then they were adapted and somehow turned into footwear that wasn’t quite a sandal and it wasn’t quite a boot. Well, the 2010 fall footwear season will be better defined with boots definitely being very boot like in appearance. Over the knee boots started to hit their stride last year and will definitely continue to gain popularity this season.
  • Clogs – Clogs have traditionally been a fall shoe but they started cropping up in the spring meaning the fall 2010 shoe world will be loaded with clogs. Look for clogs with a lot of embellishments to make them stand out in a sea of clogs.
  • Loafers and Oxfords – Men’s traditional shoe styles for women are once again gaining ground. Some of these shoes are looking to up the feminine side but including towering high heels others are just going for comfort.

Fall 2010 Shoe Trends for Men

  • Hiking Boots – The fall 2010 shoe trends bring men a whole new style of shoe to add to their lineup. Urban hiking boots that come up over the ankle and have a rugged sole like a hiking boot, but a bit more stylish upper than most hiking boots. This is a fairly new entrant into the men’s shoe market but will most likely gain steam as the shoes are trendy and stylish looking while being durable, rugged and comfortable at the same time.
  • Dress Shoes – Men always need dress shoes and obviously the fall 2010 season will also feature a lot of men’s dress shoes but this time around they’re going to have a high shine. That’s right, this season in men’s shoes shiny is chic.
  • Work Shoes – Not the traditional functional work shoes, but shoes that are designed for fashion and style yet still resemble work shoes. Last year motorcycle boots became hot shoes for men with cowboy shoes not far behind. Motocross shoes started to make an appearance and this season there will be even more shoes and boots for men that resemble a work shoe.

Fall 2010 Shoe Trends for Children

  • Girls – Flowers were very hot for the Spring/Summer 2010 shoe season and this trend continues in girl’s shoes. Expect to see everything from boots to dress shoes to athletic shoes embellished with flowers of some sort. Although little heels were very popular last year, this year little girls will see a more practical trend in dress and everyday shoes with rubber soles built to last and prevent slips and falls.
  • Boys – The sneaker is a little boy staple shoe and will continue to be without much change except that neon colors will start cropping up a little more. Fisherman styled shoes have grown in popularity across all ages and genders and these durable open sandal shoes are great for young guys. As the dress oxford and loafer are gaining ground with women, the penny loafer appears to be the boy’s dress shoe of choice.
The overall trend for all genders and ages in shoes for the fall 2010 season is pretty understated with nothing too outrageous. Quality, durability and some practicality also seem to be key components in 2010 back to school shoes.
